This beautiful end piece of petrified wood from Australia is known as "Peanut Wood". It gets it's name due to the fact that it is actually petrified driftwood that is full of boreholes from larvae, commonly know as shipworms. These boreholes were filled in by a white mineral during the fossilization process, giving this petrified wood it's unique appearance. The wood itself is from Aruacaria.

Astropecten martis of very good quality. It is exceptionally rare to have such a high quality starfish. A high majority of these are found in a muddy soil and conservation is made by impregnating the matrix with glue. The downside with such soft matrix is that part of the fossil easily gets lost and restoration is required. This specimen however was found in hard matrix and prepared, which leaves a perfect 100% natural fossil. The starfish measures 165 mm - 6 5/8" in diameter. The matrix measures 320 x 310 mm or 12 7/8" x 12 1/2".

Beautifully polished 2.7 billion year old, Marra Mamba Stromatolite from Western Australia. Marra Mamba is classified as a tiger iron stromatolite. Its formation is due to the cyanobacteria that formed stromatolites. Oxygen was not present in the early atmosphere, but arose as a byproduct of photosynthesis by cyanobacteria. This oxygen combined with dissolved iron in Earth's oceans formed insoluble iron oxides, which precipitated out, forming a thin layers on the ocean floor. The bands within the tiger iron represent seasonal variations in oxygen levels within Earth's oceans. Comes with a custom made stand.
