Ammolite is an opal-like gemstone found primarily in Alberta, Canada. It consists of fossilized shells of ammonites composed primarily of aragonite. In 1981, ammolite was given official gemstone status by the World Jewellery Confederation hence the high value of these objects. Big sections of this quality are extremely rare.
