Perfectly preserved panzer section of a truly mythical creature: the Glyptodon. The Glyptodon is one of the most well-known representatives of a group of extinct relatives of the armadillo that lived during the Pliocene and Pleistocene. Glyptodonts could weigh up to 2000 kilograms and grow up to 1.5 to 2 metres tall. They were characterised by their extremely tough armour of horn plates covering the top of their head, their back and their tail. Their armour made them look like a Volkswagen beetle. Good quality Glyptodon fossil are rare.
