From the Eotriassic layers from Madagascar many fish species have been described. The smaller fish is this Australosomus merlei very recognisable by its typical shale alignment. This Australosomus is both positive and negative and has incredibly detailed fossilisation. It is rare to find this species complete. In most cases part of the head or the tail is missing.
